Frequently Asked Questions
Firstly, the orthopaedic doctor will conduct a physical examination to identify the source of the pain and assess the mobility and strength of the affected area. They will also review your medical history to determine if the injury is linked to an underlying condition, such as a previous injury or disease. In some cases, they may run diagnostic tests like X-rays to assess bone problems, or MRIs (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to look at soft tissues. This approach allows the doctor to gain a clearer understanding of your condition and provide treatment recommendations accordingly.
Once we have arrived at a diagnosis, we will explain your condition to you and treat it using available modalities. Our goal is to provide evidence-based care to optimise your recovery. If surgery is necessary, we will explain why it is needed.
This depends on the policies that you have bought. Our staff are experienced with insurance claims and will be able to guide you through the process. In some cases, the process of insurance claims may be cashless.
Consultation charges, X-rays, and medications can be claimed up to 85%, with a 15% co-payment required from the patient under CDMP (Chronic Disease Management Programme), subject to a combined cap of $500-$700 per year for conditions claimable under CDMP. However, the clinical diagnoses must fall under a certain list of medical conditions. As we are an orthopaedic specialist clinic, the common diagnoses that can be used to activate CDMP are osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Minor procedures can be claimed through Medisave under Day Surgery.
Not necessarily. Firstly, the cause of the knee pain needs to be properly evaluated and the severity assessed. This is done through clinical examination, bedside ultrasound, and possibly MRIs.
If the condition is mild, you may just need a short course of anti-inflammatory medications or a brace, and physiotherapy. Sometimes injections can be done to reduce symptoms and hasten recovery. Only in severe cases or in conditions that have not improved through the above measures would the patient require surgery.
Yes, medications can be prescribed and supplied at the clinic, and our clinic can also administer injections (steroids, PRP, hyaluronic acid, Autologous Protein Solution, etc).
X-rays can be done in the same building and on the same day, and our doctors can review the X-rays once done.
MRIs can usually be done within the same day, and review of the MRI results can usually be done the following day.
Yes. Our clinic sees a lot of athletes and active professionals with sports injuries, and we take pride in helping them get back into sports or continue an active lifestyle.
Yes, our orthopaedic doctors are fully accredited Orthopaedic Specialists, under the Specialist Accreditation Board of Singapore. This means that they have completed the Orthopaedic Specialty training in Singapore and also the FRCS Ed (Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh) (Orthopaedics and Trauma) examinations. Thus, our doctors are well-equipped with the knowledge to treat all orthopaedic conditions including shoulder, spine, foot and ankle. Every specialist orthopaedic surgeon on our team is trained to address specific areas, including sports medicine, joint replacement surgery, trauma surgery and beyond.
Knee specialists recommend taking the following precautions immediately after a knee injury:
- Take a break from normal activities, and avoid putting strain on your knee.
- Apply ice to the injured part of your knee. It helps reduce pain and inflammation.
- You can also use heat to relieve pain.
- Use a compression bandage. It helps prevent fluid buildup in damaged tissues.
- Elevate your leg with some support to reduce swelling.
No, not always. Our specialist surgeons in Singapore are dedicated to personalised treatments. Each patient with a different diagnosis may require a different treatment. Sometimes a knee injury can be treated with proper care, physiotherapy and rest, while other times it might require surgery.
Our knee specialists always prefer to discuss all suitable orthopaedic treatment plans with the patient and then choose the best possible procedure.
We accept various insurance plans. There are many insurance providers in Singapore covering orthopaedic treatments. You can contact us to discuss your insurance plan and receive professional treatment from a knee specialist in Singapore.
Prior to your visit, kindly gather your medical history, any previous test results, and a list of medications you are currently taking, if applicable. Dress in comfortable attire and be prepared to discuss your symptoms and any concerns with our knee specialist.
Yes, in addition to having qualified knee specialists in Singapore, we also prescribe and supply medicine in the clinic. We administer injections as well, including steroids, PRP, hyaluronic acid and Autologous Protein Solution.
